Regional Economic Strategy

The Regional Economic Strategy (RES) sets out how the South East aims to deliver sustainable prosperity. The RES is produced by SEEDA but is a strategy for the whole of the South East.

The Regional Assembly played an active part in the RES consultation, and submitted detailed responses to both documents. A final version of the RES was launched at the SEEDA annual public meeting in October 2006, following approval by ministers. The Assembly Executive Committee endorsed the final version of the Regional Economic Strategy (RES) 2006 on the Assembly's behalf with the following two caveats:

  1. The region's position is that further housing and employment growth require investment in infrastructure alongside further development
  2. The Assembly's position on airport policy as set out in the South East Plan has not changed and is contrary to that in the RES.

Current Work

The Regional Assembly is working with SEEDA to develop a joint regional delivery plan for the South East Plan and Regional Economic Strategy. This will build on the work undertaken for the individual Implementation Plans for the Plan and the RES.
