Select Committees
Select CommitteesThe Regional Assembly holds select committee hearings to examine SEEDA's performance and to ensure its work reflects the South East region's needs and priorities. The select committees strengthen the accountability of SEEDA to the region and help enhance its performance, targets and engagement with regional partners. The principle of select committees was agreed by the Regional Assembly Executive Committee in 2001. The Regional Assembly Executive Committee agreed a modified structure for select committees in December 2006. Since 2007 there has been a core group of members sitting on all three select committees in a year. This revised approach will enable the group to develop fuller understanding of the process and issues, increasing the effectiveness of the scrutiny work. This core group will be joined by nominated members with specific interest in each topic. In the past, each committee has run a 'start and finish' task group, looking at one issue and then disbanding. After each meeting, the committee agrees a report and recommendations that suggest areas for improvement for SEEDA. Current Work (updated February 2009)The scrutiny programme for 2008-09 was agreed in December 2007. The scrutiny programme is as follows:
