Social Inclusion
|
Social inclusion is about ensuring all people have the same opportunities and equal access to housing, employment, public services and political and cultural activity. Social inclusion is a key aspect of ensuring the sustainable economic success of South East England and is central to the vision of a healthy region, measured by well-being of its citizens, set out in the Regional Assembly's 20 year South East Plan. As the Regional Assembly has a role in evaluating and developing policy that bears upon the South East region's economic prosperity, it has been involved in a number of projects which have contributed to the development of regional policies to promote social inclusion. Current WorkThe Social Inclusion Partnership South East is in the process of reviewing the South East Region Social Inclusion Statement and the Regional Assembly has been actively involved in this process. The statement is the work of seven regional organisations including the Regional Assembly, GOSE and SEEDA. It sets out the region's commitment to tackling social exclusion and maps the contribution each regional partner is able to make. The Regional Assembly Select Committee on Social Inclusion, held in 2005, recommended a review of the Social Inclusion Statement as some areas of the statement had become out of date since it was written in 2002. |
