Introduction

The Group's aim is to increase the Assembly's ability to address the crosscutting and strategic policy objectives facing the region - such as social and economic policy, culture and health.

The Group will inform the Assembly's work to strengthen the accountability of regional bodies and its ability to be an effective advocate for the region. As the scope of regional planning broadens to address regional objectives, the Group will provide guidance that enables the Assembly to address wider policy objectives through the introduction of a Regional Spatial Strategy.

The planned February 2005 meeting of the Policy Advisory Group was cancelled due to illness, and the group has subsequently been disbanded.
