Environment Agency Dialogue - 7 December 2007

As part of our engagement with regional agencies, the sixth annual dialogue meeting with the Environment Agency was held on 7 December 2007.

The meeting took place at Red Kite House, the Environment Agency’s West Area offices in Wallingford. The focus of the day was the Water Framework Directive and its implications for the South East. Discussion centred on three key issues:

• The Water Framework Directive and River Basin Planning
• The role of the River Basin Liaison Panels and the development of River Basin Management Plans
• Changes to the Environment Agency-Southern region.

Following the meeting members were given a tour of Red Kite House to see the building’s environmental features.

Environment Agency Dialogue - 22 February 2007

As part of our engagement with regional agencies, the fifth annual dialogue meeting with the Environment Agency was held on 22 February 2008.

The meeting took place in Gunwharf Quays in Portsmouth, and included a site visit to the Spinnaker Tower to allow members to visualise issues being discussed. Discussions focused on three main topics:

• The Environment Agency's role in implementation, and particularly the infrastructure costs and potential funding gap for environmental infrastructure.
• Coastal and flood defence issues, with a case study focusing on South Hampshire.
• River Basin Liaison Panels and the role of the Assembly in contributing to the groups.
