Select Committees

Assembly Select Committees are ‘task and finish’ committees, which are responsible for a formal piece of work, for example scrutiny on an aspect of SEEDA's performance, or establishing a dialogue with the Environment Agency. Their role is to examine and assess specific issues and then make recommendations to the Executive Committee.

The Assembly Executive Committee agreed a modified structure for select committees in December 2006. From 2007 there will be core group of members to sit on all three select committees in the year. This revised approach will enable the group to develop fuller understanding of the process and issues, increasing the effectiveness of the scrutiny work. This core group will be joined by nominated members with specific interest in each topic. In the past, each committee has run a ‘start and finish’ task group, looking at one issue and then disbanding. After each meeting, the committee agrees a report and recommendations that suggest areas for improvement for SEEDA.

Members of the public are able to attend Select Committee meetings as observers but are not able to participate.
