Regional Housing Strategy 2007

Regional Housing Strategy 2007 A review of the Regional Housing Strategy was carried out by the South East England Regional Housing Board in 2007 covering 2008/09 to 2010/11. It updates the region's housing evidence base and includes feedback from consultation responses.

The Board's highest priority is increasing the supply of affordable homes, particularly social rented housing, in the right mix of types and sizes. To encourage the provision of more family-sized homes, the Board has set a target that 25% of social rented and 15% of part rent/part buy homes funded from the 2008-11 programme should have three bedrooms or more.

The Regional Housing Board's recommendations also include:

  • Provision of 500 affordable homes per year in small villages
  • £80m over three years for private sector housing improvements to meet the decent home standard and support regeneration activity. This has been allocated through a competitive bidding round to nine local authority partnerships.
  • Continued funding for local authority housing stock to meet the decent home standard
  • Gypsy and Traveller site grant to improve conditions and provide new accommodation
  • Innovative funding to support the delivery of affordable housing through a Regional Infrastructure Fund and a brownfield land portfolio
  • At the same time the RHB submitted recommendations to Government for investment of an estimated £1.3bn in South East England housing over three years from 2008/09 to 2010/11.
