News Release : 12 July 2001REGIONAL PLANNING BODY VOTES FOR IMPROVEMENTS TO A27 WORTHING-LANCING MEMBERS OF THE SOUTH EAST ENGLAND REGIONAL ASSEMBLY voted in favour of improvements to the A27 trunk road corridor through Worthing and Lancing when they met yesterday (11 July 2001). Over 100 representatives from all of the region's local authorities, as well as economic, social and environmental bodies attended the South East England Regional Assembly Annual General Meeting in Woking, Surrey, where they discussed and voted on recommendations relating to the A27 Worthing-Lancing Integrated Transport Study. Members debating the issue said that they were supportive of the proposals 'so far as they went'. Members' advice to the Secretary of State was that they supported the recommendations of the A27 Worthing-Lancing Study and urged that the proposals be implemented as soon as possible. However, concerns were raised about the significant amount of funding required from West Sussex County Council to deliver the recommended schemes.
