Economy and Tourism

South East England is the most successful regional economy in the UK, after London. However, beneath the headlines and averages lie substantial variations and considerable concentrations of deprivation and exclusion.

A key objective of both the Regional Assembly's South East Plan and the Regional Economic Strategy, published by SEEDA, is to support and develop the regional economy so that it contributes to national growth while also following the principle of sustainable development.

On these web pages you will find details of our research studies into economy and employment land, tourism, sport and recreation, town centres and retail.

There are also links to the minutes for the Economy Advisory Group, relevant documents and research reports.

Current Work (Updated March 2007)

The Regional Assembly is exploring the best means to coordinate future Employment Land Reviews. Our work has been informed by an audit of Employment Land Reviews (ELRs) in the South East region.

As part of developing a knowledge base on regional economic dynamics, the Assembly commissioned independent research into the commercial property markets operating across South East England.

The South East Regional Property Market Study will be used to assist in the development of future economic strategies and policies.

Economy

Research on the economy has provided a strong evidence base for development of the South East Plan and the Regional Economic Strategy.

Town Centres and Retail

Regional Assembly research on Town Centres and Retail covers the strategic network of town centres in South East England and regional priorities for retail development.
