The Regional Assembly produced a Regional Spatial Strategy for Tourism and Related Sport and Recreation in 2003. Following a public examination, the Secretary of State formally adopted this for South East England in November 2004: Amended Chapters from RPG9 (GOSE website) This has now been rolled forward into the draft South East Plan. Good practice guidanceTourism South East has for some time been concerned about the pressure on the stock of tourist accommodation across the region from the increasing demands of the housing market. The Board is often asked to comment both on individual change of use applications and on policy development in this area, and is conscious that the retention issue is taking up a lot of time amongst Tourism and Planning Officers in tourism destinations. This pdf document guidance note pulls together the headlines of research and consultations in an attempt to provide some specific direction to local authorities in tackling these issues.
