Regional Minerals Strategy
The Secretary of State’s Proposed Changes to Minerals and Waste Policies in current RPG9 were published on 19 August 2005. ConsultationThe Proposed Changes were subject to a public consultation period ending on 11 November 2005. Following this consultation, the Secretary of State considered responses and published the final version in 2006. The Regional Assembly prepared the draft strategy, taking into consideration the responses received from consultation in autumn 2003, and with the approval of the full Assembly meeting, it was passed to the Deputy Prime Minister for consideration on 1 March 2004. This was announced in a news release of 1 March 2004. The Secretary of State conducted a consultation on the proposed strategy between 1 March and 24 May 2004. The Regional Assembly wrote to around 2,000 key regional interests (the consultee letter contains more detail on the process) to invite comments on the proposal. However, the views of all interested parties were sought. The Regional Assembly formally consulted on a draft of the strategy between 8 September and 3 November 2003. A sustainability appraisal of the consultation draft was also undertaken and is available. Over 300 responses were received from regional stakeholders in that time. The consultation period ended on 3 November 2003, and a sustainability appraisal was produced in October 2003.
