Inspectors' Report

Now that the Government Office for the South East has published the Inspectors’ report on the South East Plan Government will consider any changes to the Plan it feels are necessary. Proposed changes are expected to be published in summer 2008. This will be followed by a 12 week consultation period.

The full report, a summary and the Assembly’s response are available on the View Inspectors’ Report page.

Consultation process

The Assembly sent out more than 5,000 copies of the Plan to stakeholders in the region. It also raised awareness of the consultation process via advertising and information postcards in public places.

Information about earlier stages of consultation is available on the Consultation Programme page.

An Examination-in-Public was held into the Plan, which provided the opportunity to discuss and test the soundness of the Plan’s proposals and policies in public.

The Secretary of State appointed an independent panel of inspectors to oversee the process post submission. The inspectors considered all written responses and from this they published a draft list of matters (or issues for debate) on 31 August 2006. This was consulted on and comments were invited. A final list of matters and participants was agreed and published on 12 October 2006.

The examination ran from November 2006 to March 2007. The inspectors’ report with their recommendations on the Plan was published on 29 August 2007.

The Secretary of State published the Government's proposed changes to the South East Plan in July 2008. Further information is available on GOSE's website.

The Secretary of State is expected to publish the revised plan in late 2008.

The Examination in Public ran from 28 November 2006 until 30 March 2007. Updates on the proceedings are available on our EiP Day by Day page.
