This Appropriate Assessment report represents the independent consultants' advice to the Assembly. It has not yet been considered or endorsed by the Assembly's Regional Planning Committee. It will be considered by the Committee on 20 November 2006.

The report has been produced to inform the Panel's consideration of the South East Plan at the forthcoming Examination in Public (EiP), and relates solely to the content, policies and levels of development set out in the draft Plan. The final responsibility for undertaking the Appropriate Assessment on the South East Plan lies with the Government (the 'competent authority') that will formally adopt the Plan in 2008. The Government will need to undertake an additional appropriate assessment on any changes to policy and or levels of development that are proposed in the South East Plan.

An Appropriate Assessment has also been undertaken of the draft Implementation Plan (October 2006). This should be read alongside the main Appropriate Assessment on the South East Plan .
