Sub-Regional Strategies

The Plenary session of the Regional Assembly held on 21 July 2004 agreed that the South East Plan will contain nine sub-regional strategy areas.

The Planning and Compulsory Purchase Act 2004 places considerable emphasis on a sub-regional approach to addressing strategic cross boundary issues both within the region and with other regions. Where necessary and clearly justified, the South East Plan will set out sub-regional policies and proposals to address issues that cannot be dealt with either by individual or joint development plan documents or by other policies in the Plan.

The Plan will include sub-regional policies and proposals to provide the framework for the preparation of local development documents, local transport plans, community plans and other relevant programmes.

The Regional Planning Committee on 28 July 2004 agreed a brief for the preparation of each of the sub-regional strategies.

In accordance with the requirements of the Planning and Compulsory Purchase Act 2004, the work set out in the brief for each study will be undertaken by a principal authority, or where there is more than one authority, by those authorities working together.
