What is the Assembly?

The South East England Regional Assembly is made up of 112 members - 74 are elected councillors from the region’s local authorities and 38 come from a wide range of regional interests including the voluntary and community sector, town and parish councils, business, environmental interests, the New Forest National Park Authority, economic partnerships, education, sport, culture and faith groups.

The Assembly is not directly elected but is a voluntary chamber. Its key areas of work can be summed up as three Rs and three As:

  • Regional Planning
    Vision for the South East to 2026.

  • Regional Housing
    Housing investment priorities.

  • Regional Transport
    Transport investment priorities.

  • Advocacy
    Representing the region's interests in London and Brussels.

  • Accountability
    Scrutinising the South East England Development Agency (SEEDA).

  • Alignment
    Co-ordinating public sector priorities to maximise the value of investment in the region.
