Flooding
Flood Risk AppraisalThe Assembly undertook a Regional Flood Risk Appraisal (RFRA) in autumn 2006 complementing the flood risk policy in the draft South East Plan (March, 2006). This was prior to the publication of the Planning Policy Statement on Flood Risk (PPS25) and its companion guide. At the time there was only limited information available on flood risk. The Assembly therefore commissioned an update of the RFRA. The new appraisal provides an overview of low and high flood risk areas in the South East. The areas with high flood risk and high growth have been examined in more detail looking at all flooding possibilities including impacts of climate change. The study also includes recommendations to help improve regional flood risk policies. The Assembly has produced a summary of the updated RFRA to help councils, planners and developers better understand the region's flood risks. The full report, prepared by consultants Halcrow on behalf of the Assembly, includes detailed information on flood risk in the region. It was produced with the Environment Agency.
