The Regional Assembly has a key role in advising Government on significant transport issues in South East England. It is responsible for the Regional Transport Strategy (RTS), which ensures transport projects in the region complement and support sustainable development. The RTS forms part of the South East Plan, the Assembly's 20-year planning vision. Regional Transport Board
Current WorkDelivering a Sustainable Transport SystemThe Delivering a Sustainable Transport System (DaSTS) process aims to ensure that a clear set of national and regional transport priorities is defined for 2014 and beyond. It is critical this process is underpinned by a sound understanding of the challenges facing the South East as well as delivery of transport improvements compatible with the five key goals of the DaSTS process. To meet the challenges, the Regional Transport Board submitted to Government a work programme for the evidence gathering part of the process. The main document sets out the programme of studies proposed by the region while the supporting annex sets out a record of issues raised throughout the region which was gathered through a series of workshops held throughout Autumn 2008 and Spring 2009. Regional Funding Advice (RFA)Our advice to Government on investment priorities for the region. The advice covers indicative regional funding allocations for transport, housing and regeneration and economic development for the period up to 2011. Our submission and further information is available on our RFA page. LDF Transport GuideThe Regional Assembly has produced a guide to help local authority planners in the South East incorporate the transport elements of the South East Plan into their Local Development Frameworks (LDFs). The guide should assist in producing Development Plan Documents (DPDs) that conform generally to the South East Plan and that are sound, particularly in terms of their evidence base and deliverability. The guidance is primarily focused on the development of the LDF core strategy - the key plan within the LDF - and reflects the various stages of plan preparation so that it is possible for it to be used at any point in the process. Ongoing WorkAir - Recent work includes a report on the impact of the Future of Air Transport white paper on the South East region, and the South East and East of England Regional Air Service Study (SERAS). Roads -Includes work on the Bus and Coach summit, road user charging and parking standards. Sea - A response to Government's Sea Ports Study. Rail - A report providing a spatial analysis of ticket sales has recently been updated to include data to/from London and key destinations outside of the region.
